Abstract

BUSQUIER, Lucía. "Third World Women" in the United States: birth control and forced sterilizations (1970 - 1975). Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2020, vol.28, n.1, e55835.  Epub Jan 01, 2020. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2020v28n155835.

In this article I study the political movement of the Third World Women's Alliance (TWWA), an organization based in California and New York between 1970 and 1975, observing its political positions about the problem of forced sterilizations and the birth control on the "Third World Women". First, I reconstruct the most important facts that led to the formation of the TWWA. Then, I analyze what was expressed in its periodical publication: Triple Jeopardy: Racism, Imperialism, Sexism about forced sterilization and the situation of "Third World Women" in the United States.

Keywords : "Third World Women"; Black Feminism; Forced Sterilizations; Intersectionality.
