Abstract

SILVEIRA, Maria Lucia da  and  GODINHO, Tatau. Dialogues on Heleieth Saffioti’s Work and the Left-Wing Feminism. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2021, vol.29, n.1, e76772.  Epub Jan 01, 2021. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2021v29n176772.

With Marxism as a theoretical tool to understand the inequalities between women and men in class societies, Heleieth Saffioti’s work was a pioneer in pointing out that the categories of sex, race/ethnicity and class are constitutive of the Brazilian society, highlighting the central role of work in inequality relations. The articulation of these contradictions was an important debate in the formation of feminism that was forged in the country since the 1970s, with a strong militancy of women on the left, and remains central to feminism today. From the end of the 1980s, giving priority to elaborations on the concept of gender, class and race/ethnicity and the theme of violence, Heleieth Saffioti renewed her intellectual and militant presence in feminism in Brazil, in new dialogues that inspire feminist intervention and struggles of women’s movements aimed at transforming society.
