Abstract

CASTRO, Vanessa Soares de; ROSO, Adriane  and  GONCALVES, Camila dos Santos. Feminism is Not Handed on a Silver Platter: Knowledge and Practices of a Student Feminist Collective. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2021, vol.29, n.2, e65655.  Epub Mar 01, 2021. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2021v29n265655.

In this study, we discuss the knowledge and practices produced by a feminist Collective composed by high school students in southern Brazil. Based on the Theory of Social Representations and Gender and Feminist Studies, we aim to understand how the collective is associated with feminist concepts and how it inserts them into practice as it pursues its goals. A participant study was carried out, and the activities of the Collective were monitored using field diary, an experience systematization meeting, and document analysis. The analysis of the material led to three main cultural fields: sisterhood, bodies and sexualities, and “being” a woman/“being” a feminist. We concluded that the young women elaborate on individual feminist knowledge marked by active pursuit and conflict, in order to change the social relations of their environment and render them visible.
