Abstract

DANCOSKY, Andressa Kikuti; MICK, Jacques  and  ROCHA, Paula Melani. Masculization and defeminilization in journalism in crisis in Brazil (2012-2017). Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.2, e75032.  Epub May 01, 2022. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2022v30n275032.

The article analyzes the apparently paradoxical phenomenon of the de-feminization of brazilian journalism due to the economic crisis combined with the structural transformations of the profession. The object of study are the results of a panel on the professional trajectories of brazilian journalists, with surveys produced in 2012 and 2017, in a context of biographical risks produced by a combination of factors (related to the capitalist system, the media sector and the socio-political condition from the country). The comparison of data from this research with the bibliography that addresses the sexual division of labor leads us to reiterate the historical and structural nature of gender inequality, whose recognition favors the understanding of the phenomenon that affects contemporary workers.

Keywords : Journalism; Sociology of work; Women journalists; Sexual division of labor; Professional trajectories..
