Resumen

SANTAELLA RODRIGUEZ, Esther; DE PINEDO EXTREMERA, Cristina  y  MARTINEZ-HEREDIA, Nazaret. Analysis of the presence of older women in Spanish TV series. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.3, e79936.  Epub 01-Sep-2022. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2022v30n379936.

The objective of this study is to analyze, from a critical perspective, the presence of older women in Spanish television series broadcast in 2019. A qualitative methodology and documentary analysis are used as a technique for data collection and analysis. The results show that most of the characters analyzed are secondary, focused on performing care tasks, and fundamentally linked to work within the home, reproducing traditional roles of victims, housewives, object women. No significant representation of older women has been found in television series, which coincides with other studies that confirm a scarce role for older women in television fiction. In conclusion, the importance of promoting media education is highlighted to foster a correct and optimal relationship with the media.
