Resumen

PASTORINI, Vanessa. Hubertine Auclert and her féminisme avant la lettre. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.3, e80376.  Epub 01-Sep-2022. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2022v30n380376.

The origin of the term féminisme lies around 1837 in which it described, as far as is known, the ideals of emancipation of women from the yoke of men. However, the origins of the signification are extremely vague. The same is similar with féministe, whose origins of signification are equally shifting and uncertain. In this perspective, the present article seeks to understand the construction of feminism within the newspaper La Citoyenne, whose director, Hubertine Auclert, was the first woman to proclaim herself a feminist in 19th century France. For this, we will resort to the theoretical and methodological apparatus offered by discoursive semiotics. Our focus is on the study of what was a newspaper that today we can consider as feminist avant la lettre, their demands and their echoes in the contemporary feminist movement.

Palabras clave : French Feminism; Feminist Press; Discursive Semiotics.
