Abstract

HINING, Ana Paula Silva  and  TONELI, Maria Juracy Filgueiras. Cisgenderness: an analytical category in Brazilian transfeminism. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.1, e83266.  Epub Jan 01, 2023. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2023v31n183266.

The notion of cisgenderness, as addressed by Brazilian transfeminism, more than marking subjects whose gender identity coincides with the sex assigned at birth, enables us to submit to critical analysis the functioning of the norms that produce the idea of a natural and stable sex. Thus, it is primarily a question of addressing the ways in which cisgenderness works as a norm, projecting itself as the true expression of sex and organizing the domain of gender intelligibility. This article will aproach how Brazilian transfeminist thinking uses cisgenderness as an analytical category to discuss the ways in which sex/gender are produced through a normative matrix that segregates gender positions into real/artificial, natural/constructed dichotomous modalities.

Keywords : Cisgenderness; Cisnormativity; Transfeminism; Gender; Cisgender.
