Resumen

SOUZA, Carolina de  y  SANTOS, Manoel Antônio dos. Subtleties of affective-sexual relationships between women in Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.2, e86227.  Epub 01-Mayo-2023. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2023v31n286227.

The normativizing discourses that oppress lesbian women prescribe as legitimate heterosexuality as the basis for the functioning of social organization. To reinforce heteronormativity, lesbian existence is kept invisibilized or disqualified as a voluble sexuality. The objective of this study is to analyze the subtleties of the affective relationship between women as insurgencies against this erasure. To do so, it is based on the reading of the film Portrait of a Lady on Fire, based on feminist gender theories. Using screen ethnography as a method, the analyses were based on the description of dialogues/scenes extracted from the cinematographic narrative. Inspired by art, the protagonists create creative solutions to untie the knots of the moorings that prevent them from fully living their relationship. The work celebrates the subversive power of love between women, not only through the apex of the love bond, but also through different alliances and relationships of complicity and sorority.
