Abstract

ALARCON, Soledad Díaz. Deconstructing stereotypes and making domination visible through literary translation. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.2, e85800.  Epub May 01, 2023. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2023v31n285800.

In today's society, women continue to be undervalued and abused by men, who, through techniques of domination and the creation of arbitrary and artificial stereotypes, insist on this situation of asymmetry being connatural to human beings. We believe that this imbalance can be neutralised with education for our young people based on equality and respect. In this paper, we analyse the segments that convey micromachisms and stereotypes in the novel Des poupées et des anges (2004) by Nora Hamdi, following the domination techniques of Berit Ås (2004) and the parameters for measuring stereotypes of Colás and Villaciervos (2009). The translation of the examples into Spanish allows our university students to reflect on the aggressions suffered by women and how language participates in exclusionary attitudes and individual and social control.

Keywords : Gender stereotypes; Domination; Literary translation; Nora Hamdi; Visibilisation.
