This paper presents Projeto Futura, a new concept of early childhood services in Brazil. It describes a research project developed in a Brazilian nursery and its several stages of implementation: gathering data about the institution; the evaluation of the children's development through the use of a new Instrument (Inventario Futura): in service for teachers and child care personnel; and the  implementation of a program which integrates child care with early childhood education for children aged three months to seven years. The goal of the program is to change the focus of the services, from offering exclusively child care to accommodating an early childhood education program that recognizes children's culture, their abilities and needs. The paper further presents the project's first results as well as new perspectives for early childhood programs.
