The author analyses the influence of Pestalozzi in Latin America during the second half of the XIX^th century and the first decades of the XX^th one. He discusses the problems of receiving and adopting ideas using different approaches in accordance with the diverse contexts of the receiving countries. The study reveals that the diffusion of Pestalozzi principles in Latin America has occurred through the writings of other authors such as Herbert Spencer and, very often via USA and Spain.
