DEMO, Pedro. Professor e compromisso com a aprendizagem na Nova LDB: discutindo a questão dos 200 dias letivos. Ensaio: aval. pol. públ. educ. [online]. 1997, vol.05, n.16, pp.279-298. ISSN 0104-4036.

The principal objective of this paper ist to argue in favour of the right to study for the school teacher, taking in account the new Educational Base LAW (LOB). We understand such right as part of the professional practice, i.e., as part of his work. We try to base the idea of starting each semester with a course lasting at least 80 hours (10 weekdays) for the teachers, since the teacher's quality is the predominant factor for the apprenticeship of the student. The proposal of the LOB concerning 200 days of effective school work is understood as class days, i.e., of eating classes, with physical presence of the students. Although this vision of apprenticeship is totally obsolete, it is the prevailing one among our educational environment. We still do not accept that nothing is lost if the student loses classes, but he loses everything if he does not have an updated teacher and capable to guarantee the apprenticeship. This paper aims to be used as base for arguing in the State Councils for Education, intending the chance that they could recognize such right to study.
