Abstract

WERNECK, Vera Rudge. A cultura e suas fontes. Ensaio: aval. pol. públ. educ. [online]. 1999, vol.07, n.25, pp.401-414. ISSN 0104-4036.

The article suggests a reflexion about the concept of culture. Culture is conceptualized as the product of the insertion of value un nature by human action and it considers it coming from two sources: the imaginary which would take it to the spontaneous act and independent of reason and the intelligence and sensitivity which would mobilize man’s free will. It analysis, at first, the role of the imaginary in the cultural production and, next, the one which results from the voluntary act. It then starts to reflect upon the concept of culture, showing that the latter can only be considered as such when it is added to nature, a value, rather thon a countervalue, trying to establish a criteria for the evaluation of the progress of culture. The article comes to an end concluding that there is a need for the redefinition of the concept of culture.

Keywords : Culture; Value; Human Action; Imaginary; Voluntary Act; Redefinition.
