This text intends to show the theme of the function alteration and the acting ways of the General Examination of the Education in Portugal, in scenery of increasing autonomy of the educational institution. The exploitation of this problem starts with a theory framing that searches to cross the evolution situation of the Portuguese education system, the increasing importance that in this ambit has been attributing to the evaluation in the educational institution and the roles that belong to the General Examination of the Education as an evaluation and control entity, in the technical and pedagogic, administration and financial declivity. After that the results of an exploiting study are presented, which seeks to catch the opinion and the expectations of the school managers related to the General Examination of the Education.
