The article presents the results of a research that analyzed the relation between the different management styles and the performance in the daily practice of two municipal public schools in Salvador - Bahia. The schools have similarities and differences about infra structure, localization and characteristics of the different segment of the school and local communities. Both of them experienced different approximation processes to the school and local communities to face the daily challenges and to improve the quality of their processes and services. The research used the case study approach and combined qualitative and qualitative facts giving more emphasis to the qualitative one. The results show the existence of a direct and positive relation between the way of how the management process occurs in the administrative, financial and pedagogic ambits of the two schools and the respective school performance. But advises that only the democratic management is not enough.
