The fundamental schooling reorganization based on cycles, in opposition to the traditional annual-graded school, accompanied by measures that change the promotion/reprobation decisions, termed as a general rule continued progression, is increasingly adopted in many educational public systems. We organized this article taking in account the importance and relevance of research development about proposals and initiatives in progress in Brazil, and supposing that they represent on advance in relation to the knowledge ever produced and issued on the theme. It presents o survey and characterization of woks issued, since 1980 up to the first half of 2002, in Brazil. We selected works appeared in books, chapters of books and articles of educational magazines, privileging those of academic nature, including theses, masters works and congress pope rs, with the total of 96 titles.
