The aim of this paper is to call attention to the necessity of effective public policies for the improvement of educational quality, simultaneously to the ones for the improvement of student flow and student attendance. Another important point is monitoring the school system through periodic and comparable assessments along the years. Finally, the issue of teacher education and training is mentioned and some suggestions are given.
