During the current government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, legislative reforms were launched and progress has been made in defining a new public policy on Education and Higher Education. This paper presents the context in which these reforms are being discussed in the country, how the progress that they have reached halfway the current government is interpreted, as well as the most important proposals that stand out in the intention of a far-reaching reform in the national and university education system. The thesis is raised that the content and projection of this reform must now be concentrated on the its conduct and practical orientation and become a strategic component of the new national development, as intended in the orientation that has been marked. for what remains (3 years) of this six-year term, as well as for the near future of the replacement and the continuity of what is called the 4th historical transformation of the country.
