PEDROSA, José Geraldo. Esclarecimento, desencantamento e instrumentalização da vida e a onda de corporalidade. Educ. Rev. [online]. 2000, n.16, pp.99-108. ISSN 0104-4060.

This article can be defined as a “bodymania” ware in the increasing concern about the aesthetic of the body in our society. The main point to be developed is: what the main cause of this growing concern is and what the relations to be established with the individual formation are. The reflexion is based upon three ideas originally developed by a German sociologist Max Weber: enlightenment, disenchantment and  instrumentation. From this repertoire , this hypothesis is that in a world without any charm, where the logic of the ends and the calculability reigns, the individual starts searching for meaning in the place that he still believes he possesses: the body, that now becomes the worship object, as once August Comte, with the same kind of worship , man should devote to society, as a specific form of religion.

Palabras clave : Max Weber; “Bodymania”; Instrumentation of Life.
