Abstract

FERREIRA, Susana da Costa. Teachers in the movies (1955-1975): image, culture and History. Educ. Rev. [online]. 2002, n.20, pp.223-244. ISSN 0104-4060.

This article is the result of a review of selected American movies made in the 50’s to the mid-70’s, which depicted teachers. The focus was analyzing how teachers were romanticized in the plot with the objective of disseminating (or not) doctrines of the American Way of Life, in different contextual circumstances. These observations tried demonstrate the plasticity of values attributed to these characters often portrayed as professional archetypes, in some instances almost transformed in myths. The Schools in which they teachers worked could also be interpreted as smaller replicas of the American society.
