ABSTRACT The relations between literature and education will be approached, with emphasis on the recent history of (children's) literature teaching in the Brazilian school education. The aim is to discuss the importance of (literary) reading on literary texts configurations in the process of readers' formation, as well as the implications for teachers' training for early childhood and elementary education.
