Abstract

ALMEIDA, Dóris Bittencourt  and  BASTOS, Maria Helena Camara. 1980's youth culture from the students' journal: "JB - O Jornal do Becker" (Public School D. João Becker - 1985/1986) . Educ. Rev. [online]. 2015, n.57, pp.239-259. ISSN 1984-0411.  https://doi.org/10.1590/0104-4060.40538.

The study analyzes the student newspaper, "JB - O Jornal do Becker", produced by a group of high school students of the Public School Dom João Becker, in Porto Alegre, RS, between the years 1985 and 1986. The research enrolls in the field of History of Education and follows the theoretical postulates of Cultural History, with the references of written culture conceptions as a discursive production of a particular time and place. The diversity of themes expressed in the sections shows the creativity of the group of editors, who can, with a certain protagonist role in the production of the journal, combine the everyday topics to more complex ones. Through documentary analysis, a strong political concern is observed in the student journal. However, daily, youth and school issues also appear, which sets a production of meanings of experiences of those students in times of change in the Brazilian society. By reading and analyzing these copies, it is noticed that the students were in harmony with the socio-cultural references of their time, since pointing autonomy in their production, due to the country's political opening process. The "JB" denotes as a discursive characteristic the concern for the collective, because the writers are young people who, in addition to the interest in sports, surf and gossips, reveal sensitivity to reflect on other issues, what is considered proper of the adult world. They show what they think about political issues, but they are also interested in the school microcosm, which unfolds in several thematizations.
