In this article, I present, based on historiographical data, an investigation on the subject of “research in the context of the structure of Brazilian education.” In order to accomplish this empirical bibliographical work, I went through published texts that deal with the beginning of the research about education in Brazil and the reflections on the methodologies of qualitative research in academic papers. The text highlights that the individual and group interview device as an instrument for building field findings, is an adequate tool for understanding the interviewees’ words in the process of describing the object of pedagogical investigation about education.
