Abstract

MACHADO, Naysla Julieth Arboleda  and  GALAK, Eduardo Lautaro. Colombian Physical Education as a field: a look through Bourdieu. Educ. Rev. [online]. 2023, vol.39, e85970.  Epub Mar 06, 2023. ISSN 1984-0411.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1984-0411.85970.

This article was built on the basis of the doctoral thesis entitled “Dominant discourses in the construction of the Bachelor of Physical Education in Colombia”, in which the concept of field developed by Pierre Bourdieu (2015) is taken as a theoretical basis. It should be noted that, although Bourdieu has never referred specifically to Physical Education in his academic work, his theoretical approaches allow us to understand the set of relationships that occur within a group that shares certain social positions, has similar interests, and has capitals (an educational background) in common. Indeed, this theory has constituted a pillar for the research work about Colombian Physical Education field because it describes the configuration of objective relationships that is conditioned by the current situation of the agents and that is measured in terms of capital, thus establishing a distribution of power in relation to other agents. Thus, Bourdieu’s theory demonstrates that tensions arise dominant positions in the academic field.
