Abstract

INFANTE-MALACHIAS, María Elena  and  ARAYA-CRISOSTOMO, Sandra. Interdisciplinarity as a challenge to educate in contemporaneity. Educ. Rev. [online]. 2023, vol.39, e88371.  Epub Apr 26, 2023. ISSN 1984-0411.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1984-0411.88371.

Global problems such as humanitarian, political, economic and environmental crisis that we are currently experiencing do not influence school education. Students learn in a piecemeal way the knowledge generated by man through the arts, sciences and humanities. For young people, the contents of the school curriculum bear little relation to the contents of the real world and, in general, no link to their own lives. The fragmentation of school content prevents teachers and students from the critical thinking of problems from a global perspective. The complex post-pandemic reality requires studying the human problems and natural phenomena in school education from an interdisciplinary perspective. This perspective can be an epistemological and ontological possibility for the education of children and young people in contemporary times. In this context, the article offers an approach that first presents some background on some ruptures in knowledge, then on the concept of interdisciplinary education and then it proposes some reflections on its relevance as a perspective for education today.

Keywords : Interdisciplinarity; Education; Complexity; Human Interaction.
