NERY, Vitor Sousa Cunha  y  NERY, Cristiane do Socorro dos Santos. Subjects of inspection of primary public education in the district of Macapá (1852-1886). Educ. Rev. [online]. 2023, vol.39, e87520.  Epub 14-Nov-2023. ISSN 1984-0411.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1984-0411.87520.

This article aims to analyze the subjects of inspection of primary public education in the District of Macapá (1852-1886). This is a study with a qualitative approach using documentary research. The documentary corpus is made up of reports, letters and correspondence from presidents and directors of public education in the province of Pará; educational legislation and newspapers. These sources were researched in the Public Library of Pará Arthur Viana, Public Archives of the State of Pará and Amapá, Digital Newspaper Library of the National Library and in the International Center of Research Libraries (CRL). In the apparatus of educational practice and inspection of Public Instruction in the Province of Pará and the District of Macapá, there were five categories of inspection agents: president of the province, director of public instruction, delegates, visitors and teachers. The subjects of educational action and school inspection in the District of Macapá, at first, were linked to local elites descended from Portuguese settlers, military, politicians, religious and bachelor’s degree holders. Later, with the creation of normal schools in the province to train teachers and create public competitions, teachers from other districts of the province and from other social classes circulated through schools in Macapá, just as women were also allowed to exercise the teaching profession and create female or mixed primary schools.

Palabras clave : School Inspection; Public Instruction; Primary School; Macapá District; XIX Century.
