DONGO, Adrián Oscar Montoya  y  SPILLER, Luciana Batista. Imitação e a aquisição da fala: contribuições teóricas e práticas na educação de crianças de 0 a 18 meses. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2009, vol.18, n.31, pp.63-72. ISSN 0104-7043.

If for some theorists, imitation is considered only as a passive function in the reproduction of models, for Piaget it constituted an active function, and its evolution occurs due to intelligence progress. In this theoretical context, imitation being an activity that copies examples through corporal actions, constitutes an essential mechanism of the child’s phonetic-phonological organization and its speech, as well as an instrument or research technique in language acquisition studies. This article analyses speech imitation theory according to Piaget, and its use in research upon acquisition, and the development of children’s speech, and for this purpose we have used empirical results of our research carried out in 2005, and based on these results, we discuss the possibility of establishing this methodology as a technique for research, development and language teaching related with children’s speech.
