Abstract

This article presents the arguments investigated the playing space in an institution of childhood education at Juiz de Fora/MG from children’s perspective. The argument is based upon the theoretical concepts constructed by authors from the historical-cultural perspective, such as Vygotsky, Leontiev and Elkonin, which point out that playing make-believe is an essential activity for the development of the children, as well as for their cultural and social formation. I will also present the implications of the arguments from what the investigated children said. The results indicate that the playing space is very important and significant for the group of children investigated and that playing make-believe is the main activity performed by them in the context of the childhood education institution they attend.
