ISSN 0104-7043.

The research took place in a public school in the city of Marília-São Paulo with the participation of 5 to 6-year-old children which evaluated how the formation of readers occurs in childhood education. The study considered “reading” as comprehension, adapting the meaning of certain situations contained in the comics to activities that made sense for the children. It also examined the personal attitude of a reader as part of the process of reading appropriation for 5 and 6 years-old children; how the process of meaning occurs while reading this kink of discourse and how the methodology, adopted by the teacher, interferes in the process of reading appropriation of the children. This study is theoretically based on the historical-cultural from the perspective of Vygotsky, Bakhtin and researchers and comics specialists, such as Vergueiro, Cirne and Moya. It also discusses how teaching and the learning process of reading itself can meet the needs and interests of children based on activities and situations of reading planned out since childhood education and related to the production of meanings in an interactive process.
