This article aims to discuss the concept of childhood throughout human history, culminating with its current state in the contemporary world characterized by the constant media influence. We understand media interference, especially television, in the formulation of that concept, gaining new characteristic, incorporating a new structure which attributes a different status. The article sees the child as a receptor and potential consumers. It recognizes the existence of a “heterogeneous childhood”, realizing the differences and the influence of specific contexts in building this diversity, and highlights the existence of different childhoods lived in the same space and time, mirroring the paradoxes experienced by children.
