This paper discusses literature importance within students and teachers formation process. Reflections presented were firstly developed at the Education in the Contemporaneous World research program from the “Universidade do Estado da Bahia UNEB”, under the title “Confabulações na formação de professores: a experiência e o saber ético como saberes docentes”, in which the main target was to analyze the meanings given by teachers to ethical dilemmas present in the teaching activities. We realized an action-research based on fables, involving two groups of graduating teachers of the first semester 2006, at “Curso Normal Superior” (Pedagogical College) in Salvador, Bahia. Beyond the ethical analyses, the work also showed a reflection about how literature appears in the classroom. The deny of moral dilemmas as an educational issue was obvious, and the studies of literature, as part our common cultural heritage, reveals itself necessary. By the end of the research, teachers recognized that reading practices are indispensable for the humanization process, because it makes you more alive, it makes you feel more and it helps to know yourselves and the others.
