The main objective of this paper is to know how students from a big private university located in the South of the country represent teaching. A survey type of questionnaire was used to both describe the group of 100 students and to disclose their views, motifs and expectations towards their future profession. The results showed that the majority of the students feel themselves motivated to find new teaching methods so that most of their pupils will be able to learn. When talking about their professional choice, the students report that they received family support, but their friends were very critical of their choice, based on the following reasons: teaching is a badly paid profession, has low social  prestige and to teach children and young nowadays is not an easy task. Data from the opened question revealed both romantic and idealized views as well as realistic and objective perspectives concerning the future teaching profession.
