Abstract

This study aims to characterize the social representations of university students upon teaching, trying to identify its constituents and understand the dynamics of its organization. The subjects were 19 sophomore students of teaching degree courses and pedagogy. Data collection occurred through the application of the Multiple Classification Procedure (MCP) using 25 words that were the most expressive to represent teaching, obtained through previous survey. Classifications of words by the subjects in Multiple Classification Procedure (MCP) were studied through the Analysis of Similarity. The results indicate that students in training still have a romantic and idealized vision of the practice of teaching and a considerable distanciation with their future professional practice. On the other hand, they show the establishment of relations between students and commitment, which may indicate the development of knowledge and insights that brings close the respondents to present components specifically required for the practice of teaching. Finally, we found that social representations among future teachers show the strength of culture, of the history of teacher training courses for basic education in Brazil.
