The research was conducted with 1,029 students of the university courses in Nursing, Engineering, Medicine, Education and Social Service from public and private institutions of the five Brazilian regions. The objective was to identify the representations of Northeast on the Brazilian map and the characteristics of this region concerning the following issues: immigration, cultural events, type of economy, historical relevance, religion, reasons for choice when indicated as a place of preference, information about the region and origin. Data processing required a multitude of processing and analysis. For open questions, the design and analysis of the maps prepared by students was conducted to analyze content using the program ALCESTE. There was a pre coding phase which enables the use of SPSS and CHIC to investigate the relationship and involvement of similarity between the categories identified. Results showed that the student’s representations indicates a naturalization of economic poverty and cultural richness of the Northeast. However, this naturalization does not produces neither a conflict nor critical approaches which indicates a kind of idealized image of the region.
