We try in this paper to reflect upon the fight of the Pataxó for the recognizability of their traditional territory by their non-indigenous neighbors in Cumuruxatiba in the city of Prado, Bahia, Brazil. In the last decade, a group of approximatively three hundreds families and one thousand and five hundreds persons from the Pataxó ethnic group, identified as caboclos in this old indigenous village, has decided to return to the Fazenda Boa Vista, in their traditional territory of Barra do Rio Kaí, as they took back at the same time the affirmation of their identity. Invisible for others and situated at the frontier of social exclusion, the Pataxó are in the process of subverting the course of their history and the destiny that was imposed to them. Obviously this has provoked reactions in the local and national society. Our reflections are based upon a ten years period of fieldwork studies. We include a reflection about the way our scientific conception or pre-conceptions are tested in front of the other. We pretend this way to contribute to surpass the present state of injustice and blindness which reign in Brazil when one speaks about indigenous rights, territories, and cultures.
