The present work aims to analyze the constitution of the historical formation process of Núcleo Fazenda Nova and to comprehend the relations established among the residents in order to set up a new social identity. This resettlement is situated in Rafael Jambeiro (Bahia, Brazil), and is one out of fifteen created to settle families who had their lands flooded by the formation of a lake due to the construction of the Pedra do Cavalo Dam, in the tobacco region called Recôncavo Baiano. A qualitative case-study approach was applied, similar to using as data collection technique semi-structured interview and focus group. The information was completed using documentary analysis. They were 37 people involved in this study. Data analysis was done according to the Content Analysis technique. The results revealed that a period of time was necessary for the inhabitant to be accounted according to the condition of resettlement of Pedra do Cavalo,. This fact, along with the confrontation of the group daily difficulties, allowed to overcome the initial unfamiliarity among them and help to begin new affective relations, factors that contributed significantly to the group formation and to-build the new social identity of back-country people from a semi arid area.
