This article explores how multicultural education and democratic ideals in public education have been undercut by the globalization of capitalism that pays false homage to diversity with superficial forms of multiculturalism while upholding consumer culture as the ideal life-way to which all people should conform. The authors explore how revolutionary critical pedagogy can help counter the violence incurred by superficial multiculturalism and neoliberal globalization of capitalism with suggestions for theoretical contemplation as well as teacher practice.
