Abstract

BORGHI, Giorgio. “Deus é quem sabe”: transcendência da verdade e educação. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.35, pp.163-175. ISSN 0104-7043.

Based on a reflection on the hermeneutic dimension of human rationality, this article examines how, in ancient philosophy, it highlights the transcendence of truth, and shows that the vision of education is profoundly changed when one does not admit such transcendence, like on the philosophy of the sophists. These considerations underlie the outline of a “spirituality of knowledge” to know that one does not eliminate the mystery, because to live in a human world means living in the mystery of otherness: otherness of nature, others, the Other. To this end, we resort to history and the biblical figure of Moses as a paradigm of a new attitude of seeking truth, seeking an alternative to the certainty that characterizes Modernity. In pursuit of these certainties, we want to define, give, possess, but it undermines the possibility of finding a truth that is not confined in our certitudes and that always remains inexhaustible. Therefore, an education that acknowledges the transcendence of truth will be an education that helps people learn to think. And today we know that human thinking does not lead to certainty, as wanted Descartes, but the ability to cope with uncertainty.
