Abstract

The influence of Célestin Freinet (1896-1966) on rural education has been very deep. In this paper, I will pressent some reasons in order to justify this impact. I will first show Freinet´s biographical and professional trajectory. I will focus specifically upon his approach of nature and its implications in educational, social and psychological fields. I will analyze the texts published by Freinet, especially the two volumes of Essai de psychologie sensible as well as L’éducation du travail. I will refer also to the contributions of Elise Freinet that helped to make up Célestin Freinet´s approach over four decades. Our deliberately theoretical approach shows the relevance of Freinet for the contemporary pedagogical thinking and not only as the creator of the technique of printing in school or similar label.
