The study of historiography from the perspective of cultural history has broadened the field of history, including new objects, new themes, outstanding among them the role of characters and intellectuals. In this study we used the biographical approach to reconstruct the trajectory of the professor Acrísio Cruz (1906-1969). The document analysis, informal contacts and conducting semi-structured interviews made it possible to understand the performance of this teacher and the initiatives and changes in the educational field Sergipe. In his professional career, he served as director of the school group, as Director of Education, concerned with education and training of teachers for rural areas. This intellectual support from the National Institute of Pedagogical Studies (INEP) launched a plan to build more than 200 rural schools, providing better housing to the teacher and the development of pedagogical work. His project has received recognition from the authorities and officials from Brazil and Professor Robert King Hall, Columbia University who has advised the INEP. Another initiative was the creation of Rural Normal School in order to promote the training of teachers for rural areas, a cucial aspect of education in Brazil.
