This paper aims to reflect upon the school paths of EYPA’s youths and to evidence the meaning of school in for their life. For this purpose, we analyzed school biographies of youths from a public school in Salvador (Bahia, Brazil). We observed that school is considered by the students as a paradoxical phenomenon: at time represented as a space of exclusion as it can not provide significant learning; other time represented as a space of sociability and protection as it permits to meet the schoolmates and contributes to form news identities, which are considered by some students as identities that protect themselves from others identities already constructed. Studying their paths is a way to understand their demands and to avoid an even greater exclusion generated by the collective imaginary. We can therefore configure a way to rethink the school pedagogical proposes and social function.
