This paper highlights the particularities of education of young people and adult (EYPA). Based upon a recent and relevant literature upon the theme, we analyze teachers' formation and justify the creation of an EYPA specialization (short second cycle diploma) program in an Brazilian State University. We use a qualitative and inductive approach, executing a retrospective analysis about the ups and downs of this educational proposal. We conclude stressing the importance of teachers' formation through graduate studies, affirmative actions and a revision of public policies about EYPA.
