Several aspects are involved in adult learning, among which we highlight motivation and exploitation of prior knowledge. This research aimed to investigate the influence of prior knowledge and motivation factors in the learning process experienced by students of the Technical Course in Computer Integrated Mode of EYPA at IFRN (Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte) - Campus João Câmara. This research may be characterized by being descriptive, qualitative and exploratory. Data were obtained from a semi-structured questionnaire applied to 17 students who joined the study sample. The main motivating factors cited by students were the desire to finish high school to enter the job market (29%) and search for new knowledge (23%). Most students (35%) cited issues related to teachers as factors that motivated them to study, followed by 18% who reported feeling too tired to study after working hours. On the importance of using examples from everyday life at school, 94% stated that this will facilitate learning as they can link them with events of daily life, facilitating this process. In general, we find that there is an urgent need to redefine the educational proposal applied to groups of youth and adults, profound changes are necessary in order to know the actual profile of these students and adjust teaching practices to the reality that is presented.
