In this paper we try to explain how the concept of “identity” can be understood philosophically, in order to understand how the social being is necessarily bound up with educational and transmission processes which depend upon each group in specific contexts. In this sense, these implications could build a bridge towards the idea of understanding education through identity and the multiple contexts of the individual and the collective processes. After having done that, we explain a specific case in which education and identity are tightly bond. This is the case of the tlamatimine (plural form of the náhuatl tlamatine) or náhuatl philosophers before the Spanish Conquista. This could shed light on the analysis of the relationship between education and identity in the 21st. Century.
