Abstract

TEDESCO, Anderson Luiz. A transformação do ethos no oeste de Santa Catarina. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.39, pp.217-227. ISSN 0104-7043.

The main purpose of this paper is to understand the societal changes due to the consumer society and the globalization vertical processes in the west of Santa Catarina. It brings a reading comprehension of the historical constitution of the ethos of the pre-capitalist ruling classes in the region and its slow and gradual change at the time of the occupation of the territory in the early twentieth century by European migrants. We first show the objective and subjective factors that have constituted the ethos of the pre-capitalist ruling classes and then we describe the changes that have occurred due to the incorporation of the regional economy into the international circuits through the institutionalization of private property, implementation of an agro-industrial model and the process of homogenization of culture. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, we have made a bibliographic study on philosophical, historical and sociological approaches regarding the origin of the concept of Western ethos and its transformation over time - throughout the twentieth century. We have based our study on the philosophers Henrique C. Vaz de Lima and Michel Foucault, the historian Werner Jaeger and the sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, among others, in order to understand the consequences brought by the ethos transformation in the west of Santa Catarina.
