Resumen

First, this paper tries to make clear a concept of methodological strictness which is not measured by naming the type of research, but by making a clear and detailed description of the route followed by the researcher to reach the objectives and by clearing up the reasons for each methodological choice. Next, it discusses the concept and theoretical foundations of case study in education. Moreover, it points out the steps to conduct a case study taking as example case studies developed in the context of an evaluation research of a teacher education program called PROFORMAÇÃO. The final part describes and comments on two examples of research to clarify whether or not it is convenient to label the study as case study.
