Resumen

This paper presents some theoretical and methodological considerations on the writing researches called “state of knowledge”. According to the terminology in specialized literature, the text proposes a distinction between the “state of the art” and the “state of knowledge”, commonly regarded as synonyms. Based on this terminological distinction, the author describes the results of the “state of knowledge” carried out to his doctoral research in Education on the permanence of traditional practices of the Conservatories of Music in contemporary higher education institutions. Through this research, it was possible to notice that several studies were already identifying the permanence and maintenance of these practices, and signaling the need for reform. This fact emphasized the explanatory power of the Bourdieusian concept of habitus, allowing the construction of the notion of conservatorial habitus, a theoretical tool that guided the analysis of the curriculum of some courses of Music Teaching in Brazil.
