Abstract

MOTA, Kátia Maria Santos; PEREIRA, Aurea da Silva  and  RODRIGUES, Maria Emília Oliveira de Santana. Leituras compartilhadas, memória e envelhecimento. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.41, pp.105-116. ISSN 0104-7043.

In this article, we focus on the reading practices developed in the so-called Reading Circles, under the reception of literary texts and exchanges of experiences which promote the socialization and the reinforcement of solidarity among elderly women, participants of the group “Circuleiturando”. Our research interest centers around the topic Aging and Learnings, and it is aimed at  understanding the social practices of elderly women who look for new learnings, (re)discoveries of world views, their own selves, and the ways of (re)inventing the aging process. The theoretical approach is based on authors who study about memory and aging, and reading practices; as well as we find inspiration in literary texts as the basis of our motivation. From the receptivity and participation of this group of elderly women, we conclude that the reading circle has proven to be a valuable activity in order to stimulate the various types of memory and cognitive mechanisms as well as to develop their communicative competence and activate their imagination.
