Abstract

GENRO, Maria Elly Herz  and  ZITKOSKI, Jaime José. Educação e direitos humanos numa perspectiva intercultural. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.41, pp.237-245. ISSN 0104-7043.

This article aims to stimulate reflections on Human Rights from an intercultural perspective related to political and philosophical aspects in the educational field. We understand the need for strengthening Human Rights issues in education, taking into consideration each teacher’s social context of action in his/her educational practice and reflection based on social, political and philosophical perspectives. In terms of methodology, this study comprises theoretical analysis with historical elements and theoretical-philosophical concepts. We consider that every individual is a subject with the right to human dignity and that Human Rights must be understood from an intercultural perspective, overcoming the Eurocentric view which still prevails today. We see the constitution of citizenship as a process that takes place through social, political and cultural life. Therefore, we stress the need of redefinition of Human Rights concepts, from an intercultural and emancipatory perspective of the educational reality. Through an education engaged in the enhancement of citizenship and human and social emancipation, it is possible to give opportunity to the right to learn as an essential element of Human Rights on the social agenda.
