Abstract

HORN, Vera. The language of printed learning material for distance learning courses. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.42, pp.119-130. ISSN 0104-7043.  https://doi.org/10.2014/jul.dezv23n42010.

This article aims to demonstrate the importance of language for the development of printed learning materials and their role as a mediator in distance courses. It describes the need to design printed learning materials that present their own features and not be simply an appendix of lessons conducted in traditional classes, what has already been identified by the Quality Benchmarks for Distance Learning Higher Education (BRASIL, 2007). For that, it must be dynamic and presented as a dialogue with the student, in order to promote the autonomy of the student as well as their accountability to the learning process which is key for the development of the distance courses. To reflect on the importance of language in the design and the creation of teaching printed materials we are based on Bakhtinian concepts of dialogue, verbal interaction and genres of discourse from Marxism and Philosophy of Language (BAKHTIN, 2006) and Aesthetic of Verbal Creation (BAKHTIN, 1997). According to the findings of this study, it is possible to realize the importance of approaching scientific discourse to narrative discourse, particularly to adopt a conception of language that enables the learner to develop the knowledge as well as the practical use of linguistic capabilities that encourage interaction.
